FAQ

Q: What is Opacity Testing?
A: For 2012 and older diesel vehicles. Measures smoke using SAE J1667 opacity meter.
Q: What is the Visual Emissions Control Equipment Inspection?
A: Required for 2012 and older diesel, and 2017 or older alt-fuel vehicles. Checks presence and condition of DPF, EGR, SCR, NOx/O2 sensors, ECM, etc.
Q: What is OBD Testing?
A: For 2013+ diesel or 2018+ alt-fuel vehicles. Uses CARB-certified reader to verify readiness and emissions monitors.
Q: What is the cost?
A: Contact for custom pricing depending on vehicle count, service type and location.
Q: How do I avoid penalties?
A: Submit tests before deadline (can test up to 90 days early). Late or missing tests can lead to DMV blocks and CARB citations.
Q: What vehicle information do I need?
A: VIN#, License Plate #, Year, Fuel Type
Q: I cleared my engine light, what do I need to do next to meet the "Readiness Criteria"?
A:
No DTCs/Permanent DTCs (PDTCs) shall be present and vehicles must have:
at least five (5) WUC since codes cleared (SCC), or
at least 200 miles travelled SCC, or
at least 400 minutes engine run time SCC, or
at most two (2) incomplete OBD Monitors.
If a PDTC is present, the Code will be ignored if the vehicle has:at least 15 WUC SCC, or
at least 400 miles travelled SCC, or
at least 800 minutes engine run time SCC, or
at most one (1) incomplete OBD Monitor.
An OBD test submitted to the Clean Truck Check that does not meet the above criteria will get a Not Ready test result and will not meet the emissions compliance testing requirements. If your vehicle receives a “Not Ready” OBD test result, you should continue operating the vehicle under normal business practices for a few days and then have the vehicle retested.
